Warren W. Jones

Founder | Solano Press

Warren W. Jones (1929-2007) was a city planning consultant and instructor who founded Solano Press Books in 1985. His long and varied career began in 1957, when he received a master's degree in city planning from the University of California at Berkeley. He worked for the City of Oakland and soon after established a planning consulting firm in Berkeley, California. Warren was a pioneer in the California planning education field. He founded UC Berkeley Extension's planning program in 1972 and also taught at the UC Berkeley Department of City and Regional Planning. Solano Press Books evolved from Warren's experiences at UC Berkeley Extension and his interest in providing practical information that professionals can use on the job. The company began with publication of a single book -- Curtin's California Land Use and Planning Law, an authoritative source cited by the California courts and updated every year since its first edition. Solano Press expanded and flourished over two decades under Warren's leadership. Today, Warren's legacy is carried on by his daughter Ling-Yen Jones and son-in-law Jon Handel.
